Online News Association: Promoting the Best in Online Journalism

Written by Andrew Elston | Oct 18, 2017

At iCopyright, we’re passionate about promoting world-class journalism and making it easier for anyone to syndicate and license the best reporting available from trusted sources.

The Online News Association (ONA) annual conference is the place to meet up with the movers and the shakers from many the world’s premier news organizations, and each year we deepen our connections to and expand our knowledge of this vital community.

The crowning event at ONA each year is the presentation of the Online Journalism Awards. This year more than 1,100 entries vied for excellence awards in 15 categories, many of them segmented by the size of an organization’s newsroom.

We’re proud to be affiliated with many of the winners, syndicating and licensing their content from their own websites as well as from our repubHub portal and our Trending News Widgets

So here’s a shout-out to the winners and finalists who help make iCopyright and repubHub your source for world-class content:

The Globe and Mail was the overall winner in no less than four categories for Large Newsrooms: General Excellence in Online Journalism, Explanatory Reporting, Innovation in Investigative Journalism, and Investigative Data Journalism.

ProPublica was the overall winner for Technical Innovation in the Service of Digital Journalism (in partnership with Electionland Coalition) and a finalist in several other categories (often in partnership with others), including General Excellence, Innovation in Visual and Digital Storytelling, Innovation in Investigative Journalism (with multiple partners), Investigative Data Journalism, and Topical Reporting.

STAT was the winner in two categories—Explanatory Reporting and Features—and a finalist in General Excellence (Small Newsroom) Topical Reporting, and Audio Digital Storytelling.
